    Massachusetts Institute of Technology (MIT) is a private research university in Cambridge, Massachusetts, United States. It has 32 academic departments, emphasizing science and engineering.The Times 2013 reputation rankings places it number two in the world, behind Harvard University. It is co-educational, and first admitted women in 1876. Its first female graduate, Ellen Swallow Richards became the first President of the American Home Economics Association in 1908.
